Top Foods for Healthy Kidneys

Posted on Updated on

Greetings from Dr. Thorburn:

Do you have problems with your kidneys such as infections or kidney stones? The kidneys are two of the very important organs in the body. They prevent the buildup of wastes and extra fluid in the body and they keep levels of electrolytes stable, such as sodium, potassium, and phosphate. They make hormones that help regulate blood pressure, make red blood cells, and help bones stay strong. Diet and nutrition can play a major role in making sure you have healthy kidneys.

Fresh foods are best, so nix foods that are prepared or packaged. A kidney-friendly diet is one in which protein, phosphorus, and sodium levels are limited. While the body needs protein for muscle growth and tissue repair, people with kidney problems often cannot rid their bodies of the waste created when the body uses protein.

Here are some foods to include in your diet that will contribute to good kidney health: red bell pepper, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic, onions, apples, cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, red grapes, egg whites, fish high in omega-3’s (wild salmon, herring, mackerel, rainbow trout), and extra virgin olive oil.

Does this list of foods sound familiar?  Yes, they are all heart-healthy foods as well. The heart and the kidneys work closely together so it’s no surprise that the same super foods will help keep them both in tip-top condition.

Having issues with your kidneys?  In addition to making good dietary choices, whole food supplements can assist your body in the healing process and many times speed up the process.

We have a full line of whole food supplements that I’ve been successfully using with my patients for many years. In order to assess what nutrients your body is lacking, we will need to do a non-invasive form of testing, Nutrition Deficiency Testing, which is on sale now through the end of March. See complete information below and give us a call and come in so we can assess your condition and get you started on the road to wellness.

Nutrition Deficiency Testing on sale – our March special! From now through the end of March, we are offering a deep discount on your first Nutrition Deficiency Testing appointment.  The first appointment is regularly priced at $120, but through March 2017 it’s only $59! Take advantage of the savings and get to the root of your chronic problem. Today is the day to start getting healthy!

Until next time…

Yours in health,
